Sounds of the forest made their nature’s song as the wind rustled through the leaves of a nearby tree leaning over a dirt path. A crackling in the air broke into the stillness as lines of electrical energy sparked out from a small orb of light.
Boop!
Out of the orb, a wizard popped out with a cartoonish ‘boop‘ sound lightly echoing off the nearby trees.
“Where am I” the wizard said inquisitively, adjusting her straw hat as she surveyed the area.
“I was in my study a moment ago, and then…” but before she could finish, the air began to crackle again with energy, “oh no…”
Boop!
A squirrel stopped it’s hunt for acorns to sit on a low branch of a tree. Turning it’s head to the side it looked inquisitively for the disappearing person.
Again, the air began to crackle as sounds of the wizard could be heard struggling. A voice reverberating, as if spoken through a stream of water, emanated from the orb.
Boop!
From the orb, out popped the wizard. This time falling to her knees as the force of exit had increased from the previous orb-departure.
Standing and brushing the dirt off, she pulled the sleeves taut on her dark purple robes trying to orient herself.
“Where am I? What am I doing here?” the wizard said to herself as she turned to look down the path and spun around to look in the opposite direction.
Slowly the memories started to return, “I was in my study… and working on a certain spell,” she said as she drummed her fingers on her chin, “it was a more difficult spell I recall. A spell the guild had said wasn’t possible for a wizard in training like me.”
“Ah ha!” the wizard declared, pointing her hand up in exclamation to no one. “I was preparing for the guild exam! Yes, that was it. But…” she said as she again took in the surroundings, “how did I get here?”
Upon her latest inspection of the area, she noticed the small glowing orb pulsing a few feet from the ground. Her eyes went wide as she thrust her hand to her belt where her wand hung loosely.
Before she could withdraw her wand, the air crackled, this time glowing slightly orange intermixed with the blue, and the wizard disappeared.
Boop!
Once again, the forest area returned to it’s natural state. A few more woodland creatures began to collect on either side of the path as they watched on at this spectacle of light and sound.
Waves of orange and red radiated out from the orb. The sound of shouting, as if far off in an echoey place, began to build while the air continued it’s charged sparkle.
Boop!
Out from the orb the wizard flew. Through the air she soared, only to be stopped by an outstretched branch of a nearby tree which hit her in the abdomen with an ‘oof’. Curling over the branch before lowering herself down to the ground, the wizard turned to the orb with determination in her eyes.
“I remember now! It was the teleportation portal imbuement that I had cast,” she said as she readied her wand before her, “and the stone I had cast on must have been a wigerdy stone.”
Stepping slowly towards the orb, the outline of the wigerdy stone could be seen within the soft glow of shifting colors. Knowing these stones to be especially fickle with magical imbuement, she brought her wand up to her face and whispered an incantation.
A line of silver light escaped her mouth as she utter the words. The flowing silver light twisted around the tip of her wand in a fluid motion before becoming fixed on it’s point. With a flick of her wrist, she whipped the line of silver towards the floating stone.
Crrrack!
Zipping out from the glowing orb, the wigerdy stone flew as the small light-whip connected with it. Bouncing off a nearby tree, the small stone fell to the ground in a soft patch of grass.
Replacing the wand to her waist, the wizard strode over to retrieve the stone.
“I should have known better to try using you!” she said as she picked up the seemingly harmless stone.
“Teaches me right for trying to practice with one of these fickle things instead of the provided supplies from the guild.”
Stuffing the stone deep into her robe pocket, she turned back to the glowing orb which was slowly dimming. The light had stabilized it’s color and the crackling had ceased, but without the earthen power coming from the magical stone the wizard knew she needed to depart shortly or be trapped… wherever she was.
Leaping towards the orb, the wizard disappeared from the forest area for the last time. Seeing that the show was over, the forest creatures returned to their daily activities as the area settled once again.
